A TASTE OF THE TROPICS

The island night known as the "Taste of the Tropics" held at Don Moore Convention Center NSW, was a great success. The music was provided by Henry Foon's band Fixx8, where father and son combo George and Mansus Knight rocked the night away. The famous Drummoyne Church group cuisine was once again of the highest standard with all the tastiest dishes that one could imagine. Another sold out event that was well worth it.

NAIDRODRO CLUB CURRY NIGHT

A curry night was held by the Naidrodro Ba Social group to farewell a visitor from Fiji. An evening of catching up with old acquaintances and a sing a long session, topped off with a great meal made it a night to remember.

HOCKEY REPS

The two sons of Howard and Freya Smith of Brighton, Brisbane have been selected to represent the city of Brisbane. They will be playing against all Queensland city and regional teams for the Queensland Hockey Championships. They have played in the Queensland schoolboys competition representing the Metropolitan North teams. Last year they played in Townsville and won the trophy seen in the above photo. Pictured above on the left is Shaun, 11 and big brother Owen, 13. They currently play for Redcliff Hockey. Well done boys.

PICKERING COAT OF ARMS

The Pickering reunion in Fiji was such a huge success that another one is on the cards for 2014. Here is a picture of the Vunivalu of Rewa Ro Epeili Mataitini with the Australian Pickering contingent. Ro Epeli's grandmother was the daughter of the original Charlie Pickering who left Sydney in 1830 for Fiji. Pictured on the extreme right is Trish who is the descendant of the only sister of the original Charlie Pickering. L-R: Joanne,Jac, Ro Epeli, Trish.

FIJI DAY 2012

The Fijian welcoming ceremony usually features a guest of honour or "vulagi dokai". Doing the honours this year in Lidcombe, was NSW government minister Tony Issa. After he accepted the first bowl of yaqona he addressed the Fiji Day gathering.He recognised the long and close relationship between Australia and Fiji. On behalf of the premier and the NSW government, he conveyed best wishes for Fiji Day 2012. Some Fiji Day pics.
