Graduating from the University of Sydney recently was Arieta Cama. She was awarded a Master in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations.
Her advice for those contemplating university study: "my humble advice for anyone contemplating academic pursuits:
1. You are made up with a brilliant network of knowledge, skills, experiences, family, friends, support network - the only thing you need to put to top gear are : determination, perseverance, tenacity to complete, and having fun - dont take life too seriously. Take time to smell the roses - do not neglect those who love you - appreciate them yet take the time to get them to understand this journey you are on
2. Claim your place - do not be shy, second guess yourself, camouflage your background - you are who you are - take on the world - you have just as much right to be here
3. With rights, come responsibility - do not waste the opportunity - no one will check in on you if you are not attending classes, doing your readings etc - but it will show up at the end - so take the pursuit seriously plan you life, manage your time, resources (including money!) so the lack of certain resources does not get the better of you - live within your intellectual, economic, spiritual means. Be grateful for the opportunity. Being grateful and gracious and respectful attract good people to help you, wish you well, etc - in other words, get your values into top gear!
4. Finally, be ready to share your knowledge, your experiences, your (meager!) resources, your mistakes, how you picked up after those mistakes - be ready to lend a hand to someone trying o make a start, you will find you are learning new thing even when you are supposed to be the more experienced - learning should never stop!
A TASTE OF THE TROPICS
The island night known as the "Taste of the Tropics" held at Don Moore Convention Center NSW, was a great success. The music was provided by Henry Foon's band Fixx8, where father and son combo George and Mansus Knight rocked the night away. The famous Drummoyne Church group cuisine was once again of the highest standard with all the tastiest dishes that one could imagine. Another sold out event that was well worth it.
